What is Territory Teen Project

The original concept was created by another photographer in Victoria Louise Sedgman Equine Photographer. Her project is called "The Sweet Teen Project"

Direct quote from Louise " So many of our teenagers struggle daily with their confidence, anxiety or low self esteem. By enjoying a unique, meaningful and fun photo experience with their heart horse and me, I hope to empower them. To show them how amazing they can be and to create wonderful memories for you. "

I approached Louise for permission to carry out the Teen Project here in the Northern Territory and would like to offer this to as many NT teens as possible.

The NT has the highest nation average of suicide in children aged 5 – 17 years. 1 in 5 Young Australians suffer from Mental Health at one point in time. During recent years as being an equine and rodeo photographer here in the NT, I have seen the struggles in the arena, I have spoken to many mums and dads who have been or are currently struggling with their teenagers and mental health.

SUPPORTING HEADSPACE

More than 75 per cent of mental health issues develop before a person turns 25.

And yet, many traditional services aren’t equipped to address the unique barriers that young people face to accessing mental health support. Headspace began in 2006 to address this critical gap, by providing tailored and holistic mental health support to 12 – 25 year olds. With a focus on early intervention, they work with young people to provide support at a crucial time in their lives – to help get them back on track and strengthen their ability to manage their mental health in the future.

At the heart of Headspace services, is ensuring they meet the evolving and unique needs of young people and those who support them. Therefore, young people are at the centre of everything they do and they play an active role in designing, developing and evaluating their programs.

I would like to donate $50 from every $100 booking fee to Headspace. You will receive 5 digital photos as a thank you for participating in the project and then you have the option to buy a package of all your photos taken during your session. To assist in supporting the mental health of our teens, the money donated will be going directly to the Darwin NT, Headspace office.

After the project is completed, I will be creating a beautiful hard cover coffee table book titled ‘The Territory Teen Project’. This will be a very special book that shows the magical relationships of teens with their horses. Each teen photographed will be featured and their story shared, as well as a selection of beautiful images from their session will be included in the book. The book will be available prior to Christmas for families to purchase purchase. A copy of the book will also be gifted to you with any photo package you may wish to purchase from their photo session (packages are from $1000 up to $3500).

WHO CAN BE A PART OF THIS SPECIAL PROJECT

Teenagers, boys or girls, from the ages of 12 to 25 years. They must also have their own horse or pony that is special to them. Travel fees may apply if outside of 50km radius of Darwin NT.

WHAT IF YOU DON'T OWN A HORSE?

Teenagers, boys or girls, from the ages of 13 to 19 years and you don't own a horse. But maybe you own a motorbike, or you do dance or karate. If you don't own a horse but would love to get some photos done with one, we can make that a possibility. This project is going to be open to all teens.
